DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKSHOP: The beach is scattered with archaeological artefacts. As you search, the mind becomes full of
colours, textures and shapes, the sounds of water lapping against pebbles, footsteps on gravel. This dynamic environment provides an ideal

possibility of a more desirable world. We explore the prescribed biblical text, as we seek to discover the teaching techniques of Jesus and what
role he plays in bringing about change.

WORKSHOP X
LEADER: DAVID TATEM
TITLE: Embracing the other. Bibliodrama and Receptive Ecumenism
TEXT: Acts 2, 5-12
DATE: 17th and 24th May 2021
TIME: 18.00 -21.00 Paris Time
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 12 persons
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKSHOP: At Pentecost, we recall that the Spirit enabled the apostles to reach across the
boundaries of language and culture between peoples.
This online workshop will explore how we might combine Bibliodrama with the principles of Receptive Ecumenism* to
see how we can receive gifts across the boundaries not only of language but of our confessions and traditions.
Using symbols, language, artwork, sounds and other forms of expression, we will look at how we might recognise gifts, as well as becoming
aware of obstacles and resistance to receiving them.
The workshop will take place across two 3 hour sessions, the first will explore gifts across the boundaries of Christian traditions, the second will
extend that to also look at gifts from other faiths. There will be ’homework’ between the 2 sessions and some preparation for the first session.
Information will be sent in advance.
*Receptive Ecumenism is an approach to ecumenical relationships which emphasises and explores the gifts that we can receive from other
traditions rather than what we can give. It invites us to recognise that ‘the other’ may have insights or strengths that we do not have and that we
grow if we are able to receive those gifts offered to us.
